Sophie Ryder 'DOG SHOW'
Hignell Gallery presents DOG SHOW, a solo exhibition of drawings and sculptures by Sophie Ryder, on display from 21 June - 31 July.
The exhibition will include 24 new artworks of the artist's cherished hounds, including large scale charcoal and pastel drawings, bronzes, steel cutouts and a wire sculpture.
These sensitive and large-scale portraits will be displayed across both levels of the gallery space.
Sophie discusses her relationship with her hounds:
"My 4 dogs are with me 24 hours a day. I live and breathe with them and the love they give is so incredible. They are very intelligent and funny and all very different in character and shape and they are such a strong family unit. They all adore each other.
I can draw them so easily because I am watching them all day and whichever dog I decide to draw that day sits for me perfectly still as they know when they are getting extra attention and they love it, so they are just the perfect models and such elegant dogs."
All proceeds from Ryder's small bronze miniature entitled 'Galgo' will be donated to a dog charity in Spain called Galgos Del Sol, who rescue abused and abandoned greyhounds.
